The Must-Have List for Your Planner

I love to plan. There I said it.

:)))))

Sitting down to a fresh year, a new month, and an empty week is one of my favorite things.

Planning is design work for the Type A. Instead of the week going where it wants, you are designing it. Crafting it. Curating the ideal week.

Overplanning is my kryptonite. It’s the yin to the yang. I’ve worked hard over the years to not find myself in the middle of busy seasons but nevertheless I still do.

Planners look at the day and craft how they will spend all 24 hours. Efficiency is achieved but so is burn out. :P

Planning for time off is one way to beat back the burn out, but my goal this year is to hire. More hands is what we need in our business and it’s time we find some. :)

In the meantime, I’m pulling out my fresh new empty planner labeled “2022” and I could not be more excited about it!

I returned to a simple paper planner mid-year and realized it was exactly what I needed.

HOW I PLAN

I utilize my Google calendar to track monthly appointments and recurring to-do’s.

I use my paper planner to map out the week with tasks and commitments.

Then I type up my daily to-do list in Google Keep, being sure to order it based on when I plan to do each task.

PLANNER MUST HAVES

For me, a planner must meet the following requirements:

  • Large in size (preferably 8.5” x 11”)

  • Monthly spread

  • Weekly spread

  • Sturdy cover jacket

And that is it!

All the bells and whistles get in the way for me. For example:

  • Daily spreads

    • My success rate on using them is about 50/50. They just take up bulk in the planner

  • Reusable binder covers

    • The binder rings are too bulky and make it hard to write close the spine.

    • I’m not a fan of committing to a binder design and thus the style of planner that company decides to make.

    • And they are expensive and usually too manly for me.

  • Extras

    • I love the idea of tracking my top 3 and my weekly habits and alllll of the other things but truthfully, I just need to track my to-do’s. Once I get those down to a science then I might look into adding on.
