How To Spring-ify Your Closet

One of my favorite authors, Myquillyn Smith, wrote about spring-ifying your home in her latest book “Welcome Home”. I took notes and pondered how I might set up a fresh springy feel within our home over the next few weeks.

Later on, while getting ready for the day, I thought about how the same notes I had just taken applied to my closet. At that moment, I was staring into my closet feeling a little heavy and unmotivated to pick out an outfit.

Grays and browns. Wool and other thick materials were hanging there begging to be worn.

Not today wool. Not today. And not any day in the near future either.

So I planned to spring-ify my closet. It took less than 30 minutes and already made me feel heaps better!

HOW TO SPRING-IFY YOUR CLOSET

Step 1: Walk into your closet (or open the doors in my case) and pull out the heavy fabrics. I store these under our bed in storage containers.

Step 2: Make a “giveaway bin” for anything that you would rather not see or wear again next year.

Step 3: Make a pile to sell (if that is your thing). If it is winter weather clothes and accessories, then put them away until Sept. That is the ideal time to sell cold weather clothes.

Step 4: Decide on a spring color story. I went with pink, green, blue, and white.

Step 5: Shop your closet for items that fit the season and color story.

Step 6: Spend some time online looking for inspiration. See my Spring Fashion Pinterest Board HERE.

Step 7: Go shopping. Either online or thrifting. I like to fill in with online buys like dresses from Target or Old Navy and then search the thrift store for a few fun surprises thrown into the mix.

THE REWARD

You are welcome for how much fun and how much easier it will be to shop your closet for the cutest season appropriate outfit.

You can repeat in a few months when summer begins to approach. In the meantime, go look fabulous!
