Easiest Juice Ever: Just Add Apples

Truth be told, Raymond and I have got into some bad habits. Part of it was dealing with the stress of his dad’s health and then his passing.
Part of it was seasonal as I love coffee in the winter.

Yet when I tried on a few of my spring clothes and realized they had shrunk in the closet (how dare they!?), I realized it was time to ditch the middle expanding habits.

Thankfully the change in seasons has me craving green and lean and clean.

As Raymond loooooooves to tell me, “the greener the cleaner”. :P

Seven or eight years ago we were gifted a juicer of which I thought we would get little use out of. Turns out we LOVE fresh juice. I don’t always love the prep and the cleanup, but I absolutely love the result. I could never go back to orange juice out of a carton after having our own.

When we started juicing, I was intent on keeping it simple. We tried a few recipes and some made the cut but mostly we just decided to juice one thing at a time.

Instead of making enough for one juice drink, we decided to just make a bunch of apple juice. Or a bunch of orange juice.

Or a bunch of celery juice. And so on.

The one recipe that we absolutely love is the Mean Green Juice from Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead. (I highly recommend this documentary if you are looking for something to watch!)

I will admit that juicing seems to come easier in the summer when there is an abundance of fruit at the farmers market and grocery stores. One year we signed up for the CSA basket from Bush-n-Vine and found ourselves loaded down with cantaloupes. Into the juicer they went to keep from spoiling!

Speaking of CSAs, I’ve been contemplating a subscription to Thrive Market or Sunbasket. If you have experience with either, then please let me know!

My absolute favorite juices are:

  • Apple

  • Orange

  • Pear

  • Pineapple

  • Peach

  • Celery

I will mix them with sparkling water at night and drink that as my mocktail! Fruity and bubbly without all the headache after effects. ;)

FAVORITE JUICING TOOLS

I’m using April as my springboard back to health. No more junk. And no more excuses. I’m doing the 30 Days To Healthy Living Program (it will be my third time!) and I cannot wait! I was amazed at how much better I felt after doing it before so I knew it would be a great starting off point for spring and summer.

It even helped me kick the drinking habit (for good!).

Raymond and I have mapped out a pretty light fitness schedule for April but I keep eyeing the workout classes at Optimum Result Gym in Gastonia. I really miss having a local yoga studio so I’m trying to find something that I will like and will stick with.

Are you feeling the urge to purge some habits as well? :)
